If you are reading this, you probably know by now that I did not finish my first IronMan attempt at Goa on October 27, 2024! This post is more about chronicling the event and a self-assessment of what went wrong, and I will stick to the swim leg only, which is where my race started and ended. This may be a long one. I hope I will read this before every stage of my next triathlon (whenever it happens) - the registration stage, the training stage, and the final stage just before the event. The Buildup The training leading up to the event was not at all sufficient in the swim aspect. One thing I had decided after a similar distance triathlon last year at Malpe (albeit supported in the swim with buoy and a rope tied all the way in the sea marking the route) was that I would clock at least 3000 km mileage on my cycle in the 11-month period between Malpe and Goa. மனிதர்கள் ஒரு இடத்திலிருந்து இன்னொரு இடம் செல்ல பழகி விட்டனர். வீட்டை விட்டு கிளம்பும் போது எங்கு செல்ல எத்தனிக்கிறோம் என்று நமக்கு தெரிவதால் பயணம் எளிதாகிறது. சில சமயம் போகும் வழி தெரியாவிட்டாலும் சேருமிடம் அறிந்திருந்தால் யாரிடமாவது கேட்டாவது சென்று அடைகிறோம். அப்படி பழகி விட்டோம். சேருமிடம் தெரியாமல் ஒரு பயணத்தை மேற்கொண்டால் அது எப்படி இருக்கும்? அதுவும் சரியான வெளிச்சம் இல்லா ஓர் அடர்ந்த பாதையில்? கண் போன போக்கிலே கால் போகலாமா என்பர், ஆனால் கண் எந்த பக்கமும் பார்க்க இயலாத போது கால் நேரே போக வேண்டும் என்றால் எப்படி? என்னடா சொல்ல நினைக்கிரே, எதுக்கு டா இவ்வளவு முஸ்தீபு என்று எண்ணுகிறீர்களா? நிற்க. இதற்கு முன் நான் பெற்ற அனுபவங்களை இந்த இரண்டு linkகளில் படித்து விட்டு தொடரவும். முதல் அனுபவம் ஆழம் என்றால் என்ன? முருங்கை மரத்தை ஏறி வேதாளத்தை பிடிக்க சென்ற விக்ரமாதித்தன் போல மீண்டும் ஒரு கடல் நீச்சல் முயற்ச்சியை பற்றியது தான் இந்த வலைப்பூ. கமலஹாசன் அன்பே சிவம் படப்பாடலில் கூறியது போல "ஏதாச்சும் போதை ஒண்ணு எப்போதும் தேவை கண்ணா, இல்லாட்டி மனுஷனுக்கு சக்தி இல்ல.." இ...

இந்த வலைப்பூவிர்க்கு முன்பே நீங்கள் வந்திருந்தால் என்னுடைய கடல் நீச்சல் (!?) அனுபவம் பற்றி படித்துருப்பீர்கள். அதன் தொடர்சசியாக இதை கொள்ளலாம். மரக்கிளையில் அமர்ந்திருக்கும் குருவியானது அந்த கிளையை நம்புகிறதா அல்லது தன் பறக்கும் திறமையையா என்று படித்திருக்கிறோம். அது போல் நீந்தும் போது ஆழம் என்னானாலும் நம் நீச்சல் திறமையை நம்பி தான் இறங்குகிறோம்.  ஒரு வேளை நம் திறமை மீது நமது மனம் நம்பிக்கையில்லா தீர்மானம் நிறைவேற்றினால்? இது போன்றது தான் என் நிலைமை. நீண்ட கால இடைவெளி மற்றும் நல்லதல்லாத நினைவுகளை மட்டுமே நினைவில் கொள்ளும் மனம் - deadly காம்பினேஷன். 3 km swimathon, 1.5k in triathlon மற்றும் பல training sessions நீந்தி இருந்தாலும் ஒரு முறை தூரம் சென்று மனம் பதபதைத்து கைகால்கள் விறைத்து போய் ரமணர் போல் மரணத்தை அருகில் சென்று பார்த்த ஒரு அனுபவம் - நிற்க, actually அவ்வளோ scene இல்லை but ரொம்ப பயந்து போய் குப்புற படுத்து நிதானமாக back stroke செய்து ஒரு வழியாக வந்து சேர்ந்த அந்த நினைவு அகளாமல் ஒரு வடுவாக மிஞ்சிவிட்டது. அதனால் ஒவ்வொரு முறை ஆழத்தை (goggles வழியாக) பார்க்கும் போது ஒரு இனம் தெ...

Where : Narsipura, a village near Shimoga in Karnataka. More precisely, near Anandapuram. Reach Anandapuram by train or bus (or take a bus from Shimoga to here). கற்றது கையளவு கல்லாதது உலகளவு என்றால் அவ்வைப்ப்பாட்டி. நீந்தியது குளமளவு நீந்தாதது கடலளவு என்பது என் கருத்து.   என்றாவது ஒரு நாள் கடலில் மீன் போல நீந்த வேண்டும் என பலநாட்களாக என்னுள் ஓடிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் ஒரு எண்ணம். இதே எண்ணம் எங்கள் ஓட்டக்குழு TTB இல் இன்னும் சிலருக்கும் இருந்தது.   ஒரு நல்ல வாய்ப்புக்காக தேடிக்கொண்டிருந்தோம் . சூர்யா , parttime TTB and fulltime CTC, இதைப்பற்றி விசாரித்து ஒரு தகவல் சொன்னார். கோவளம் கடற்கரையில் கடல் நீச்சல் பயிற்சி (மேற்ப்பார்வை என்பது சரியான வார்த்தையாக இருக்கும்) சனிக்கிழமைதோரும் காலை 6 முதல் 7 மணி வரை நடைபெறுகிறது என சொல்லவே , TTB இல் ஒரு சிறிய குழு அந்த பெருங்கடலில் நீந்தலாமே என ஆர்வம் கொண்டோம். இதை நடத்துபவர்கள் கோகோ கிளப் எனப்படும் ஒரு குழு. ஒரு ஆர்வத்துடன் இன்று காலை கிளம்பி சென்றோம். நான் , சதிஷ் , ராமசந்திரன் மேற்கு தாம்பரத்தில் இருந்து ; அருண் , சூர்யா , சதீஷ் , கணேஷ் கிழக்கு தாம்பரத்தில் இருந்து .  மற்றவர்கள் வர கொஞ்சம் தாமதம் ஆனதால் அது வரை கடலில் விளையாடிக்கொண்டிருந்தோம். சிறிது நேரத்தில் சில பரிச்சயம் ஆன முகங்கள் , ...

In a bid to garner more TRP, it is not new for media, TV channels in particular, to sensationalize things. And we, the public at large, are always in an endeavor to find out the villain for every bad thing that occurred.  In this quest, the victim has been CTC and its founder, Peter Van Geit in particular.  I have been associated with CTC for over a year now and this blog is purely to let you all know of what CTC does and what Peter has done.
